What a year 2009 was! Still is!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

We will be going home in two days and i won’t have time to blog in the next 2 weeks, since my schedule is so hectic!!!

Tagaytay, Subic, Bataan, Laguna… Golf, gimik with the girls, dinner with classmates, family reunions. And i also want to squeeze time to be able to do bazaar shopping! What? Shopping again?! Hahaha.

Let’s do a rundown of the important events of 2009

1. H1N1 Flu Pandemic - is a global outbreak of the H1N1 virus or “swine flu.” The outbreak began in Veracruz, Mexico and has tolled more than 10,000 deaths already worldwide.

2. Death of Former President Corazon Aquino - She is the most loved president of the Philippines being the first woman to hold such office. She is the Philippine’s Icon of Democracy having spearheaded the 1986 EDSA Revolution or “People Power.” She has been hailed by TIME Magazine as the ‘Saint of Democracy,’ due to her well-known spiritual life and strong adherence to non-violence and democracy.

In 2008, Aquino was diagnosed with colon cancer and after a one-year battle with the disease, she died on August 1, 2009.

I love her so much that i cried buckets when she died, during the funeral procession, burial and everytime i see Kris Aquino (youngest daughter) cry on National TV. Hahaha.

3. Typhoon Ketsana - more popularly known as “Ondoy.” The rainfall was said to be worst than typhoon Katrina. Hit the Philippines area on September 26, 2009 and caused widespreading floods around Metro Manila and surrounding provinces. Inspite of the material loss, we still thank god that my family and friends are all safe.

The best thing that came out is Filipinos worldwide showing support and care for each other. It’s so amazing!!!

I wish you all could see the amazing community spirit, charity and compassion in the Philippines. What I see happening here totally blows away the response to hurricane Katrina. People here have less to give, yet they’re giving ABUNDANTLY. There’s such a greater story than just the ‘death toll’ that the american media fails to capture.

What an American said about Ondoy Bayanihan

But my gawd, our car is still under repair! Tsk Tsk!

4. Greenbelt 5 Robbery - In broad daylight. At Rolex store in Greenbelt 5. Sunday Morning. How could they could orchestrate such a thing! Read here for more details.

5. Ampatuan Massacre - Ive blogged about this here and you can see the updates here.

6. Manny Pacquiao win against Miguel Cotto - He is the world’s sixth highest paid athlete, joining the ranks of Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. Time Magazine’s 2009 one of the world’s most influential people.

Sans the controversies surrounding his marital problems, he still makes us proud to be a Filipino!!!

7. Efren Penaflorida as CNN Hero of 2009 - he formed his Dynamic Teen Company in the hopes of giving alternative to gangs through education. His “kariton klasrum” brings hope to out of school youths, so that they can still believe that their life will change.

By that, let’s end Year 2009 in a positive note, shall we? LOVE LOVE LOVE! ♥♥♥
