Twenty-something. Still a Daddy's Girl.

Eloise is feisty and sweet. She is a character from the book "Girls in Trucks" and from the movie "Love Happens." Isn't it lovely?

CNY Activities

I’ve been constanly checking airfare ticket, but it’s so effin’ expensive! We initially wanted to go home again for the CNY holidays, just to experience “Garnet” as a family. I’m so jealous when Mabel messaged me yesterday, saying that they already have “Garnet.”

(Note : “Garnet” is a car, hehehe)

I decided to vent my frustration and searched for other (should-be-cheap) activities, we could do over that CNY holidays. Even though i’ve been working in Singapore for almost three years, i have not celebrated Chinese New Year here. Blame it on our homesickness. Always eager to come home every chance we’ve got.

Well, nothing beats spending time with your family. During “praning” (crazy) times, i question myself, what the hell am I doing here? I should be at home, spending more time with my family. But then again, I could very well help my family by working here in Singapore. And I learned a lot of things by being independent. It’s true what they say, you cannot have the best of both worlds.

If you cannot be with the one you love, love the one you are with.” And i’m not talking about romantic relationship, ok? Hahahaha.

Listed below are some ways I could love Singapore better during CNY.

1. Singapore Airshow

Travellers to Singapore are in for an action-packed weekend as audacious aerobatic teams take to the skies and wow crowds with their remarkable aircraft. The Singapore Airshow 2010 is actually a 6-day event, taking place from 2 to 7 February 2010. However, the first 4 days are exclusively for trade attendees while the final 2 weekend days are open to public.

For a fun-filled afternoon, it cost just $20 for an adult and $8 for a child between 1-12 years old. Alternatively, there’s a family package at $100 for 2 adult tickets, 2 child tickets and 1 car park label. Tickets can be purchased through authorised SISTIC agents only or through the Sistic website.

2. River Hongbao

Event Dates : 12th Feb 2010 to 20th Feb 2010

Time of Event : 12 pm to 11:30 pm except for on CNY eve: 12 pm to next day 1.00 am

Venue: : Marina Bay Floating Stage

Into it its 24th year since 1987, River Hongbao has been Singapore’s annual signature event to usher in the Chinese New Year. Immerse in the rich Chinese culture and festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year with the fairyland of lighting decorations, savour mouth-watering food from food street and cooking demonstrations, purchase sourvenirs from the handicraft and specialty stalls, have fun at the carnival and enjoy traditional and contemporary Chinese song and dance performances. River Hongbao 2010 will feature local performers and performers from Chengdu, China with many interesting cultural activities such as Chinese Lantern-Riddles and competitions.

Visitors can look forward to majestic, large-scale displays of popular Chinese mythical characters such as the God-of-Fortune, 12 Chinese zodiac animals and many other lighting installations which would provide numerous photo opportunities. All these against the specular Marina Bayfront view with firing of firecrackers and fireworks, a visit to the River Hongbao will be a trip to be remembered.

3. Chingay Parade

Event Dates : 19th Feb 2010 to 20th Feb 2010

Time of Event : 8.30pm (19 Feb) and 8pm (20 Feb)

Venue: : F1 Pit Building

The Chingay Parade Singapore is an annual street parade to celebrate Singapore’s multi-cultural uniqueness, and is a colourful extravaganza of exciting floats and performances. Chingay is part of Singapore’s unique way of celebrating the lunar new year.

Chingay Parade Singapore 2010 will take place at the F1 Pit Building at Marina Bay. Visitors can purchase tickets for seats at the 36,000-strong grandstand or simply stand along the parade route.

Chingay has enjoyed a long tradition, with its first parade dating back to 1973. Its name, ‘Chingay’, was coined from its phonetic Hokkien equivalent, which means ‘the art of costume and masquerade’.

JUST REMEMBER… DON’T HATE just APPRECIATE! Positive vibes for 2010!
